Toni Barton’s design career had an eclectic start on both coasts: designing scenery for both theatre + short films while studying architecture in Los Angeles, assisting several Broadway scenic designers, designing at a themed architecture + an industrial set design firm in New York. Each of these experiences lead to her transition into design for film + television. Whether recreating historical periods or conceptualizing new worlds, Toni consistently delivers settings that don’t just serve the story – they become integral characters within it.
She recently production designed the pilot of Netflix’s BOOTS based on Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine + the Peacock limited series FIGHT NIGHT: THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST, fictionalizing the 1970 drama after Muhammad Ali’s comeback fight. Toni also designed Netflix’s ARCHIVE 81, a series based on a supernatural horror podcast + OUT/SIDE OF TIME a short film by artist Jenn Nkiru, installed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Afrofuturist Period Room exhibit.
Previously, Toni balanced production demands with a commitment to education, working as an art director on many of the Marvel Netflix series while also serving as an New York University adjunct professor, where she shared industry insights with emerging entertainment designers.
